 Weekly Psych: Green Tomatoes

Whatever we recognize we'll get more of.
Dr. Jeffery Bruns, in the Weekly Psych Report titled “Green Tomatoes,” explores the inherent negativity in human nature, rooted in survival instincts. He explains that our ancestors focused on the negative aspects of their environment to stay safe while hunting, a behavior that persists today. This inclination towards negativity affects our relationships and overall happiness. Dr. Bruns emphasizes the need to consciously shift our focus towards the positive, particularly for the well-being of children and in marriages. He illustrates this with a story about his sister-in-law and her son, who used inappropriate language in public. Instead of reprimanding him, she redirected the conversation, highlighting the importance of what we choose to reinforce in our interactions. The message is clear: by recognizing and attending to the positive, we can foster healthier dynamics in our lives.
